J.R. Hinds

JR Hinds Face Shot

How did you get into the sport of quad freestyle?

Well it was kind of like pieces of a puzzle. Back in  ’03 and ’04 I was racing the nationals and if I won a moto I would do a little trick. Then that turned into finding the biggest jump around so I could do tricks off of it.  After that my good friend Caleb Moore had a show in Englishtown, NJ where I witnessed my first quad backflip. I was instantly hooked. That weekend was actually the last race I ever raced. I did go out with a bang though, I got my 15 seconds of fame on ESPN2 [Laughing]. I bugged Caleb for a while and he said I could come down and try to do a backflip. So I trucked down to Texas from Ohio and learned to flip. After that I kinda just stuck around in the Quad Freestyle scene.

What rider or riders did you look up to when you first started riding?

I looked up to a lot of guys. Some who I’ve become good friends with which is super cool. Just to name a few… Tim Farr, Dana Creech, Tavis Cain, Keith Little, Kory Ellis…  and more. There’s so many good guys in our sport.

So far what has been the highlight of your freestyle career?

For sure the backflip!  Dont get me wrong though all the traveling and stuff I got to do along the way in the last three years has been absolutely amazing and I would do it all over again.
